Ah, it's brilliant isn't it? Launch day, everybody's on now. There's nobody held back. Let's get in about it. And Homer, how are you feeling about launch day? Oh brilliant. Real love football has been amazing and my pack luck this week's been even better so can't complain at all.

[00:01:19] Right, well we've got to go there. Guys, don't switch off. Let's find out about Homer's pack luck. Who have you packed Homer? So was it Saturday after the pod I packed Jal Nevis and I was like, oh that's really good. Quite happy with that. Then was it two nights ago I was doing the two times 79 outcomes walkout and I was like, oh that's good. It's French. I was like, right cool. Striker. I was like, ah who's French strikers? I was like, oh Cotto, she's quite good. I saw I already got her. So then it came up league in and I was like,

[00:01:49] it was a walkout French striker in league in. And then it was Dembele. I didn't realise he was a striker. I thought he was a right winger so I was absolutely chuffed with Dembele. And then I got a cheeky Saliba last night from the marquee matchup. So yeah, my pack looks absolutely brilliant now. Neil, help me here mate. I'm super Jal. Yeah, I've seen a few people, especially on the Discord, packing a few belters. I've been left behind so far I feel. Nico Williams is my best pull. 84 rated and packed him twice.

[00:02:19] I'd love to get something. Dembele's a game changer. You know he's going to be in your team for three or four months as well, which is fantastic. GG's mate, well done. Absolutely. I think you used up your luck last year. Yeah. I mean, are you not normally getting a special Brazilian winger? I thought you got that every year.

[00:02:41] No, the best I've ever had was Mia Hamm on day one. Somebody packed Jorginho, didn't they, on the Discord, which was again fantastic. I've not managed to pack an icon early on since Mia Hamm. That was the best ever. I'm usually getting back pretty early, but not this early. Well guys, let's get into it then. So we've had eight days for you guys. You've had eight days of playing the game.

[00:03:06] So if people who have just picked up the game like myself the last couple of days, I managed to get a shot at the EA trial. Let's go with you, Neil. What advice would you give someone on the first day as they've opened the game? If you've just got it today and you don't have any pre-order points and you're just loading in from the start, I think the best advice is just get a team together and play games because the coin for match proportion is really generous.

[00:03:34] Sometimes you're getting between 1,300, 1,500 coins a game. So the quicker you can just play games, even squad battles, just to get your coin base up. Plus you can get SP, which appears to be broken and is unlimitless as well. Just play as many games as possible and try and get what you can from your starter packs and stuff. And for you, Homer, is there anything else that the guys should be thinking about? They've listened to this pod, they've maybe not done it, they've maybe not realised there's something in the game this year?

[00:04:06] Not overly. There's obviously the gallery, but if you're only starting, you're not going to have the facilities for that yet. But just what Neil said, start playing games, get in the squad battles, because that's going to be your first trench of rewards on Sunday. There's the live events, and then there's the live event against the computer. So just walk away to them. It'll get you rewards, get you going with packs, get the SPCs done, obviously the foundation ones, things like that, and just try and build a good team.

[00:04:33] The market hurt a bit of a lull, so it's a lot cheaper tonight than it was last week. So just walk away. And Neil, other than the sort of tips that we're giving them, in terms of we've went now from, you know, a few weeks ago, 99 rated squads, and now we've got 84 strikers if we're lucky, or if you're Homer, you've got someone even more special. But from a gameplay point of view, what advice would you give our listeners at the moment?

[00:05:01] It depends, honestly. Be patient. Especially online games. Be patient. You've got to learn to defend properly now. You've got to learn to keep your line jockey a lot. Use intercept as much as you can, things like that. Intercept, the range seems to be quite wide and strong. And take advantage of it if you can. Just don't lose the head.

[00:05:30] And as you say, we're back to don't get too hung up in bad passes and stuff. One thing I have done with the passing, so you go into the settings, is the player lock thing. I can't remember what it's called. Not player lock, when you can release a player, just set it to late. Apologies, I'll get the name of it. And then set the pass sensitivity to high. And you're getting crisp, faster passes.

[00:05:59] And I've noticed a big difference with that. That's one thing I would look into in changing. I think it's player receive, you change it to late. And high sensitivity for passing. That's a good start as well. Okay, perfect. So I'll look at that myself. Yourself, Homer, is there anything that you've maybe noticed or you'd maybe give advice to a new player? Sure. So like Neil says, manual defending this year is a touch of subjects for some people. I personally love it.

[00:06:27] A lot of people are really not happy with it. Don't dive into challenges. Same in real life football. When you were told never dive in or jump in, really just don't dive or jump in. Jockey back until you know you can win the ball. Because if you dive in, players are going to buy you and you're just not going to be happy because they're going to score. So don't dive in. Don't try risky passes. Try and make sure that you're really looking at the player that you want to pass to.

[00:06:54] You're not going to be able to do the stupid 360 spin passes that you could do last year when your players were 99 stats. So over the top three balls, really strong. So if you are going to try and play aggressive, make sure you pick the last defender possible and jockey back with them so that you don't get caught out. There's so much you could really go on.

[00:07:19] I would say setting your defensive line to high as well is really important because you're catching a lot of people offside. These chipped through balls seem to be quite meta in what people are attempting to do. If you set a high line, you will catch a lot of them offside. Yeah. We'll get to the good, the bad and the ugly. That's our first topic and that's due very, very shortly. All I would really say to people is I've noticed is that this is very much like real football at the moment. So there's a lot of missed passes.

[00:07:49] There's a lot of interceptions. It feels like there's a lot of turnover. It's actually quite good fun. The game is slower. The biggest thing I would say is just make sure your player is facing where you want to pass. The no-look pass is not there at the moment because of the low passing stats. I feel that. So if you do, as the guys say, take your time. And most importantly, it's the first day. Let's enjoy it. Let's not get burnt out and get too hung up on rewards or scores or anything like that. But what we're going to do, guys, we're going to quickly move on

[00:08:18] is to the good, the bad and potentially the ugly as well. So we've had eight days, eight full days for you guys with the new gameplay mechanics, role presets, manual defending. And let's do a quick reality check on what is actually working on the pitch and what is driving us absolutely nuts. So a couple of things that we've been talking about that are good and we'll talk about them in greater detail is the curved and trigger runs, the L1-R1 or L2-R2. So do you use that, Graeme?

[00:08:48] Is that something you use, these kind of triggered runs? I do use them. The curved runs, I'm still trying to master them. I'm still, obviously, it's brand new. Games are on eight days old. John, the boss man, has obviously said last week and said in our Discord, they're really powerful when you get it. I seem to be triggering them at the wrong time because I seem to be sending them into packs of people. So I'm still trying to figure that one out.

[00:09:17] But I reckon once I figure it out, it will be really handy. The normal trigger runs, I think for me personally, they stop the runner a little bit too quick. I don't like that. But other than that, I think they're pretty good. Neil, is it something you use to trigger runs? I try to, but I'm still in the habit of just triggering L1 runs, which sets them on R1 runs, to set them off on a straight run.

[00:09:44] The curved runs and stuff, I have not got to grips with yet, mainly because I haven't really tried it. Not on purpose anyway. But I'm noticing a lot of the AI runs are really strong, especially with certain formations. You don't need to trigger as many runs as you used to. But yes, definitely, it's definitely a good thing. Yeah, definitely. And then something that we feel, I think we talk about this every year, I think, recently, is what is broken and annoying.

[00:10:13] Low-driven shots. Dare I come to Homer, because I've played Homer in Crete, and he is the master of the low-driven. Absolutely, when you play against him, if he gets a chance and go, it is a goal, guys. He is. He is absolutely clinical. So, Graham, dare I come to you, is it broken low-driven shots? Not for me. I find that it's okay. I've got a few players. I've got Lerick Remy that's got it as a plus.

[00:10:42] And there's times that I could be right in front of the goals, and he misses them, or the keeper saves it. So, for me, it seems pretty well-powered. Because if you don't get enough power behind it, it's really tame and just offers nothing. Obviously, I've now got Dumbelli, and I've started to notice in the box, I prefer the finesse option. But, again, that's still, it's not as overpowered as last year as well for me. So, again, it's hell of a day.

[00:11:11] So, I like it enough. And, Neil, is this your go-to? Is low-driven your go-to? Or are you a finesse guy, or do you just love to lash it in the back of the net? We talked about this in the bonus pod. For the patron supporters during the week. And I said low-driven was the kind of meta shot, mainly because I did use it a lot. But, to be honest, so far this week, just bashing the ball, just hitting the shot, is the way forward at the moment.

[00:11:41] Especially near post digs, if you get a chance to smash into the near post. It's pretty much going in every time. It seems to be the way forward. I started my week with Giovanni Dos Santos, as my striker, who has got technical plus, but he's got low-driven silver. And I tried Rafa Leal, because I managed to get him at a decent price. And he's got no shooting play styles whatsoever. He's got base rapid, base quick-stepping, base incisive. But, if you just smash this power button,

[00:12:11] shot close enough to the goal, it's going in. Seems to be the way forward for me. Okie dokie. I must admit, it's not really my go-to. I am very much just smash the button from there. Okie, I'm just very quick, because I know you do use precision shooting. Would you recommend someone doing this at the start of the game, or should they just wait till the players get better? Depends on the person, I think, not the card. If you're happy enough to learn and practice it, go for it.

[00:12:41] I personally think it's the better shooting thing, style, personally. So, if you've got the patience and willing to do it, I'd go and do it now. Just, the quicker you learn it, the quicker you've got the benefits from it. I'd probably say practice in things like squad battles, or other modes, like the grounds. There's plenty of wee silly modes in there that you can play it in. Moments as well. Go and try it in

[00:13:10] maybe less what, try to think of the words, games that don't have as much meaning. Like, going into rivals and trying to go up the ladder and learn that may be the wrong place to do it, but I think it's fully worth trying. Yeah. Neil, I heard you saying yes there, as Homer was talking about. Are you a prison shooter as well? Yeah, absolutely. He used the words I was going to use almost word for word. If you're going to learn it, learn it now. This is the best time to learn it, just at the start of the game.

[00:13:40] You'll miss a few. You'll score more than you miss, so once you get to the crux and habit of using it, it's very helpful, especially when you've got a decision to make. People will try, as much as keeper movement isn't really a thing these days, people will still sometimes move the goalkeepers, but if you can bash a ball into the near post, it will go in because that seems to be the method of scoring at the moment, so for me, it's a 100% yes to use it. Yep,

[00:14:09] definitely. So guys, we've got a few minutes left in this segment. I just wanted to talk about the manual defending reward. You know, standing tackles, intercepting passing lanes, feel impactful when time's right. Neil, let's go to you on that one. I think if there's one criticism for me on this so far that I would say that, and this might be a little controversial because of the way people have complained, I would say the interception and tackle range is probably too heavy, too wide, especially interception wide because some of the interceptions you're seeing

[00:14:39] are still pretty crazy and I think that needs taking in a wee bit to make it not realistic but just a bit a bit hard. But then it just makes it even harder, doesn't it? And it is bloody hard. It's a case of being patient, keeping your head. It's not a case of just sitting back on your couch and relaxing. If you're playing an arrivals game, you are needing to concentrate, especially when you've not got the ball for now. So it's very rewarding when you do it right, yeah. Jockeying is very important this year.

[00:15:09] You do see people just keep their finger completely on R2 or whatever the jockey button is. I can't remember now. And it does slow you down a bit, but it's very effective and it's difficult. Yeah. And then, Comer, this comes to potentially a negative. We're talking about bouncing tackles, ball retention after making a successful manual tackle, particularly in the 18-yard box. Are you finding that a bit of a frustration? I think I've only had it in maybe one or

[00:15:39] two games. Overly, I've not had it as much as maybe other people. So for me, it's not much of an issue. I suppose it's in real life, wasn't it? I mean, if you're going to crunch into a tackle, the ball could go anywhere, couldn't it? Yeah. I think it's fair. I think it's fair enough. I mean, that's what I feel about this game. It feels realistic. You know, let's be honest, our team's not the best in the world and there is a lot of missed passes and bouncing balls about it. And it feels like a real football game at the moment. You know, as I say,

[00:16:09] it's a great start. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm super positive about the game. I have to say, I am extremely positive about it. You had mentioned this, Homer, at the very start was the over-the-top lofted through balls potentially being the overpowered as well. Yeah. In the right hands, they can be. I've noticed also a load of the social media personalities highlight it as being super OP. But, but you play somebody that just,

[00:16:38] that's their only tactic and they try and spam it every single time. Yeah. You know it's coming and what I would say if that is the case, do not bring your keeper out because keepers are too slow and get back to the lines. So if you pull it out after they've lobbed you by a lob ball, you're going to get chipped and they're going to get an easy goal. So just leave your keeper back. Like I said, LL, just when you're defending, try and defend with the last centre back because then you've always got that ability to get back a little bit quicker.

[00:17:08] Don't dive forward. Always try and stay around the area of danger and then when that ball is going to go, just head straight back. I think it's really strong, but I think everybody's looking or rushing to find out or title something the meta or overpowered at the moment. I think it's a good tool, especially when you play some people that try and sit back a bit or people that try and play the 95 press. So I wouldn't say it's overpowered,

[00:17:38] but I'd say it's a strong tool. Set high depth. That's what I'd say. Set high depth. And for me, don't put full-backs on full-back defend. Put them on full-back balanced and they tend to step out a bit better. I suppose that is then potentially the final positive that we need to talk about, Neil, is the fact is that this game seems pretty fluid in terms of there is no real meta at the moment. We're talking about before it would be full-backs on defending. You're talking about

[00:18:07] full-backs going forward. Does the game allow at the moment for a bit of flexibility in your style of play? Yes, absolutely. There's not. There is formations people are going to, which seems to work. I've played against numerous formations even today. I've played against 4-2-1-3s, but I've played against four triple-twos, I've played against four four-twos. It definitely does seem to be more flexible with play styles at the moment, yes,

But here's the kicker. There was zero gameplay changes in the notes. Strict stability, menu bug fixes, connection tweaks. Guys, is EA leaving the gameplay untouched for a launch a positive sign or are you itching for a patch? Graeme, let's come to you first. Hallelujah.

[00:20:07] I said last week, I said last cycle but when we had patchcape, just leave the game, let it breathe. But one of the guys that was a former pro, he's a content creator and he does things for the E-Pro Open was saying that he was told if anything it would be November. I've seen other pros or ex pros, people like Boras Legends saying wait until the new year. Now he did suggest February. I think February is a bit too far. But, just like the game breathe,

[00:20:37] it's brand new. Tonight's only release night and we've had people crying already after eight days that they needed the game patched. Now for me, as soon as I seen the pitch notes, I was like, please don't. So I went in and I read it all and thankfully there's nothing there about gameplay so I was really, really happy with that. I mean, this just seems

[00:21:06] a total change from normal, doesn't it? Yeah, but like I said, other parts of EA, so Codemasters, they make racing games famously. They're the developers behind the F1 games. So, what was I going to say there? Last year for their F1 game, it says, here is the game. We're not going to touch it. We're going to let you feed back everything

[00:21:36] that you don't like about it. But what we'll do is we will take it all on board and we'll look and we'll process and we'll do whatever we need to do and then about November time, New Year time, we'll look at it and that's what they did. And I think they only really touched it maybe two or three times. So I really hope that EA just take on board that sort of practice and they do let the game breathe. Like I said, it's only eight days old. Realistically, today's the first day. Let everybody practice.

[00:22:05] Let everybody see how it gets on. It is hard, but like I said and John said last week, it requires practice and when you do get the practice it's really rewarding. So just, I hope they keep this tackle just not racing to fix everything to keep very loud minority happy. No, I mean, look, when you buy a really nice bottle of red wine you have to let it breathe. You have to let that flavour sort of bubble away there and hopefully EA have realised

[00:22:35] from our point of view I think the three guys on the show are all feeling the same way. Super positive about this release. The game seems, you know, it feels a bit polished if I'm being honest with you. The only thing I would say then is does the fact that there is no gameplay changes mean that the skill gap has been retained? I don't know if we can, I don't know if Neil's on mute or if we can grab a quick word of him again

[00:23:06] from that point of view. So as I say, Neil, is the skill gap being maintained and one that we on this show certainly would like to see continue? It has to continue. they have to, Homer's right, they need to let the game go. I don't think they'll get away with it again because last year it was dramatic the way they really patched it so quickly and they made the game a different game straight away. So,

[00:23:36] November at the very earliest I would say and even at that I don't, unless you need to fine tune it for better players coming into the game or stuff like that don't patch it at all just leave it. Create a skill gap again yes, absolutely. I had a really hard time playing on Tuesday, Tuesday afternoon where I probably went two, three wins in maybe three or four hours and I really struggled with the game and I was playing against players in Division 7 who were clearly above

[00:24:07] my skill level and how better they were than me I had to suck it up and get on with it because the game will the game will should essentially balance itself out over the next couple of weeks with players moving up divisions and things like that. I had a really good one today where I get 24 out of my 30 rivals points in the space of a few hours as well so it should just be left alone people the game's there to be learned hopefully people will learn it there'll be people John at foot coaching

[00:24:36] will offer stuff for instance there'll be tips on our Discord people are already offering tips on our Discord as well and how to adjust to the game and things so yeah let it be. And Graeme if we were then to wrap this segment up what is the percentage chance of EA releasing patch two in three weeks that reverts the game back to heavy AI defending? For me I'd say maybe 10 20%

[00:25:07] I'd love to say zero or none at all but you can't never say that I know there is a lot of discussion online especially X a lot of people aren't happy but like I said so far the news is that what I let the game breathe people need to remember we've not got 99 cards anymore a lot of them don't have play styles so as Neil says in a couple of weeks maybe a couple of months cards are going to be better

[00:25:37] better stats better play styles more play styles when all the aim hit the game could become a little bit more easier but there should be a skill gap a bad player from Division 10 shouldn't be able to ride the AI up to Division 5 and be kept there on the back of an inflated or an unnatural ability to be honest

[00:26:07] you don't see racing or proper football people that don't have the talent the quality don't generally play at patch and for you Neil what percentage do you see there being a gameplay patch coming in that brings back AI defending I'm optimistic answer do you want to know what I genuinely think will happen we always

[00:26:37] want genuine there's no made up opinions on this show it'll be patched at some point something will be done yeah it's just ended last year so I think it'll get very shortly they need to keep players in the game however I think there was a massive backlash last year with the way it was patched so I'm genuinely optimistic I

[00:27:23] but I fear for the worst at some point yeah no well look let's see fingers crossed they don't because I think we've all really enjoying it at the moment we really are you know think this is a

[00:27:53] going to school and having them and someone swapping with you and the shinies as well this is for me feels like getting the shinies this gallery mode and when I went in and had a look at it it looks absolutely amazing and I

[00:28:24] I have not really got too involved in it to be honest I know a lot of people have raced in and are buying cards and losing cards and losing coins on the tax just to get it raced ahead and get a card I have concentrated on playing more than actually doing it I go in maybe do much or know much about it yet

[00:28:54] so let me quickly talk about it then so every card that enters your club whether you quick sell them stick them straight away on the transfer market or put them in SBC or do anything with them loan cards don't count they complete as well and

[00:29:24] you have to collect a certain number of cards for Arsenal Barcelona League special cards whatever and then once you get that number of cards that is graded a D C B A S which is a super card as well and then as you move up your gallery level moves up and you can get rewards with it that's all you need to do it's nothing special you actually buying and selling

[00:29:53] cards and there's a small chance of making some profit as well if you pick properly so as your gallery level goes up as you collect these cards and you go and check and you get it so when you hit level 5 you get a Jesus Chrono fundamental item when you picks and

[00:30:23] 25 1 of 5 92 holographic base icon picks let's be honest guys this isn't happening anytime soon getting to level 25 but there is definitely some decent rewards out there and also the tokens are back so you can get tokens as well so for someone like Hulk or Alexander Pato 750 tokens to get them there's Remy as well so they are fairly decent value for really all you're doing is collecting cards

[00:30:53] as well so Neil before I wax on for hours and talk about how have you got involved in the gallery at all shortly put no long answer is I've looked into it I've looked into it if you think about selling players and making some profit along the way you don't have no chance because the market's tanking as don't know why that is however for certain clubs

[00:31:24] people are recommending they buy the quickest way to get SDR clubs like Birmingham or Malaga or two their players are rocketing up high so if you want to

[00:31:54] look into these ones go and have a look on X as well do that search if you use a chat GPT just have a look for those cards as well the starter set is only five cards do that get your tokens get your thingy buy sell grade cards have a look fill the cheapest

[00:32:24] first and one quick way to do it if you're going to say for instance go with Birmingham City it's easy

[00:33:20] I mean it's a menu grind isn't it I love a menu grind so it will be something Once I start picking up a lot more cards I'll start getting into it For tokens I'm glad that that's the way tokens are In the game at the moment I'm glad tokens aren't part of rivals Or squad battles and things like that I'm glad that they're in the gallery for tokens Which is a positive for me Look it's well worth Digging into guys

[00:33:49] If the gameplay is getting a little bit difficult On you and you want to do something else Have a wee look at that You can have a little bit of fun with that As Neil said coins this year might not be the be all And end all as well So you can play about with your coins As the balance comes up Let's be honest I think 20,000 coins straight away Can be made fairly quickly Am I right in saying that Homer? Pretty much I'm sitting at about 100,000 coins And I've not really done much trading Or nothing

[00:34:19] It's all just through playing games And generally Normally that takes a bit of a while So the coins are pretty easy Come by You get good whack for playing There's a good whack in the Objective section So Yeah It just should be pretty easy enough To get good enough coins To start playing about with it Absolutely brilliant Absolutely brilliant So So guys Let's talk about the latest promo that's out And it's also live And it's quite weird And because it lasts all season

[00:35:15] To either hit combined goals or assists So if they're for a centre mid A cam A left wing Left mid Right wing Right mid Or striker If they get Up to 20 goals Or assists combined For the first three They'll get a shooting And a passing Plus one For the first six They'll get a one play style Added If they get 10 They'll get an additional One overall And for 20 The maximum Is another one overall If they're a right back A left back A centre back Or a CDM It's clean sheets

[00:35:45] So for two clean sheets They'll get one physical And defending For four clean sheets They'll get one play style For six And for ten clean sheets They'll get one play One overall For each of them And again That's for all season So If they don't get it In the first Maybe Two Three Four Five weeks By the end of the season It should be Achievable Which is Like I said Massively different There's going to be A couple Of
